From April,

It’s hard to believe, but Sunday marks 15 years since the 911 attacks on our beloved country, America.  We all remember where we were when we got the devastating news of what was happening before our very eyes.  We stayed glued to the TV, watching the tragedy unfold before our very eyes.  I was on my way to work when I found out was was going on.  I remember the lump in my throat and fighting tears as I felt so inadequate at that moment.  I had to try to figure out how I was going to speak life and hope to listeners, although I felt overwhelmed with sadness, fear and anger myself.  My heart grieved for the families who had lost loved ones from such a terrible act.  The heroes who put their lives in danger to save others were a reminder to me of what true love means.  They set aside their own fears of losing their lives with one thing in mind…to rescue those trapped in the rubble.  What incredible heroes.  What bravery and honor they demonstrated.

I’m reminded of the Bible verse that says “Perfect love casts out all fear.”  We can use this opportunity in remembrance, to show honor to those heroes by choosing to allow God’s love to work through us, to comfort others who are struggling with hardships and trials.  Jesus said we become great leaders by serving.  You could carry this message through by donating to a charity close to your heart, expressing kindness to someone and making the effort to put into practice what Jesus taught.
